A 2,000-year-old tomb of a woman wearing precious jewelry

With gold and gem articles, the woman was most likely a relative of the famous warrior or the chieftain.

Scientists were surprised to find an ancient tomb of a woman in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria of Russia, north of the Caucasus region, Mirror reported on November 8. "She has two rings on her hands. They have complex fabrication techniques," said Anna Kadieva, an archaeologist at the Russian History Museum.

The two rings are molded from white glass with gold threads, and in the middle are dark glass.This is definitely a Roman product , Kadieva said. At that time, this jewelry was very expensive. They are invaluable to people in the North Caucasus because they cannot produce glass.

"The beads on the woman's shoes are made of Carnelian glass and stone. She wears a gold pendant with amethyst on it to the afterlife," Kadieva added. This woman is most likely part of the Alans militant group. They flocked to the Caucasus in the 1st and 2nd centuries.

"The wealthy warriors from the North Caucasus gave expensive jewelry to their loved ones. The woman in the ancient tomb is more likely to have a close relationship with a warrior like a mother, wife or sister because this is a throne. She was buried with a warrior and two other men, " Kadieva explained. Because gold jewelry displayed a high social status, it was possible that this woman was the wife of a famous warrior or chief.

The team of experts is not clear how 4 people in the grave died. However, the condition of the corpses shows the time when they die very close to each other. Scientists are still studying the tomb.
