At least 600 people died in just one heat wave in India, with temperatures up to 48 degrees Celsius in some areas.

More than 600 people died from the heat in India

CNN reported that most victims were in the southern states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, where more than 140 people have died since last Saturday (May 23).

At Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, the temperature soars to 48 degrees Celsius, while in Delhi the capital is 44 degrees Celsius. Authorities call people to stay home and drink plenty of water.

The heat has raged in the two states of India since mid-April, but most deaths occurred in the past week.

According to authorities, this heat wave is due to lack of rain . The wells and boreholes in the ground are depleted of water.

People in Nalgonda, Telangana state, are already used to high temperatures in the summer months but this year the weather is much hotter.

According to experts, hot sunshine rarely causes such large casualties, but many of India's affected areas have high humidity , making the weather more uncomfortable.

Initial reports from state governments show that most victims are workers, have no decent accommodation or adequate drinking water.
