Many columns of suspended light appeared in the sky of Sulu province in Jolo, Philippines, on June 30. Photographs capture scenes from different angles shared by Sulaiman and Amarkhan Jidara, local residents, on Facebook. This is the second time this optical phenomenon has been encountered in Sulu.

According to Live Science , although the light column looks very much like an aurora, the two phenomena are unrelated. The aurora forms due to the interaction between charged particles in the solar wind and atoms in the Earth's upper layer. Meanwhile, the light column created by cold temperatures causes the hexagonal flat ice crystals to float at lower altitudes than usual , reflecting light from the Sun, Moon or ground sources. like streetlights.

The pillar of light could make some people mistakenly think of it from the alien spacecraft. The locals call the light column "Lansuk-Lansuk" meaning "heavenly candle". They often think it is an omen of bad luck.
