At midnight there is also the Sun.

The most sunny place on Earth could be on an island in the North Pole, in a land with a midnight Sun.

One way to define where the sun is most is based on the time the Sun shines continuously. According to the BBC, statistics show that both the Eureka and Alert research stations on Ellesmere Island, Canada, have high sunshine.

May is the sunniest month, sunshine exists 65.4% of the day time at Eureka, equivalent to more than 15 hours. But the average temperature here is at -10 degrees Celsius, not conducive to sunbathing.

These two research stations are located in the Arctic Circle, in latitudes called " the land at midnight Sun" because in the summer, the Sun never dives under the horizon and illuminates for many days continuously. The Arctic is a snowy area but in theory, it can be seen as a desert with very little cloud and rain.

With 24 hours of sunshine during the day and relatively little cloud cover, the research station on Ellesmere Island experiences the most sunny hours in the world, at least in May. But in December, the situation was completely opposite. Contrary to the midnight Sun is the polar night, when the Sun does not grow for 6 months.

According to weather stations throughout the United States, the city of Yuma in Arizona is the sunniest place in the world. The sunshine time here ranges from 11 hours in the winter to 13 hours in the summer and the possibility of sunshine is up to 90%.

"The southwestern United States is influenced by high pressure most of the time of the year, leading to warm air covering the whole area," explains Michael Crimmins, a climatologist at the University of Arizona, Tucson. "This entails many cloudless days and warm temperatures."

According to Crimmins, Yuma is famous for being sunlit because it is located in the subtropical region. Thanks to the atmospheric circulation called Hadley Cell , this area is both hot and dry.

In 2007, scientists from the US Aerospace Agency (NASA) used satellites to find the sunniest spot on Earth. Sensors on satellites can determine radiation reflected through clouds or from the surface of the Earth, including water bodies. The locations where many of the sunbeams received were found to be far away from densely populated areas.

The most sunny area in the sea is in the Pacific Ocean, southern Hawaii, the United States and east of the island nation of Kiribati. On land, an area in the Sahara desert near Agadem, Niger, is the least covered by clouds.

The average solar computing researchers in these areas received daily from 1983 to 2005. Solar energy recorded in the desert is 6.78kWh / m 2 and at sea is 6, 92kWh / m 2 , which is equivalent to the average amount of electricity used to heat water every day by US families.

"Statistics are taken from the measurement of satellite clouds and other information about the atmosphere, then estimate solar energy to hit the surface , " said Paul Stackhouse at Langley's Research Center. NASA in Hampton, Virginia, shared.
