Can turn human skin into sperm and eggs

British scientists use skin cells to create sperm and eggs, an achievement that could lead to a revolution in infertility treatment.

A team of experts from Cambridge University in England took stem cells from human skin and raised them for 5 days under special conditions so that they became the first form of eggs and sperm, The Guardian reported.

"We believe that they will become the first forms of eggs and sperm that will develop into a complete form , " the team said.

In the next phase of the study, experts will implant the first forms of eggs and sperm into the ovaries of mice to see if they can grow into a complete form. If that happens, the medical community can use skin cells to artificially inseminate people.

"It happened pretty quickly. Now we can make egg and sperm cells from skin tissue for 5 to 6 days under the right conditions , " said Azim Surani, the team leader.

Surani's achievements can become a historic breakthrough in medicine. In 2012, researchers used to create eggs and sperm from mouse stem cells, but their products could only produce baby mice, not humans. If Surani's research is successful, the law of artificial insemination will have to change. For example, English law currently prohibits medical facilities from using artificial eggs and sperm to treat infertility.
