Chicken quarry cutting - Measures should be applied in industrial animal husbandry

In recent years, the livestock industry of Lam Dong province has gradually shifted from self-sufficiency and self-sufficiency to commodity breeding. Many families have chosen breeding career .

In the selected animals, the industrial chicken was of interest to families in Da Lat City, Bao Loc Town and densely populated areas. In the last two years, the number of industrial chicken raised in households has increased from 5,000 (1990) to about 20,000. The reason for the strong industrial chicken flock is by taking advantage of family labor, investment is not large, fast products, easy product consumption and high economic efficiency.

In order to help farmers have a more technical solution to solve some common problems in industrial chicken farming, we introduce a chicken quarry cutting method and recommendations for use in industrial chicken farming in the home. family.

Why is it necessary to apply a chicken cut?

First of all to solve the problem that is often seen in industrial chicken production: The phenomenon of chickens in a flock striking, eating, eating each other; laying hens can easily break eggs, anal anatomy, rectal tearing, other gut and gut eating . When this phenomenon occurs, the development is usually in the direction of increasing and causing damage in economic terms (there is a case where it is impossible to continue animal husbandry).

The phenomenon of chicken pecking, furry eating, meat eating together may be due to some reasons:

  1. Regarding food: Due to nutritional imbalance (lack of protein, excess energy), chickens are starved, thirsty.
  2. The temperature of chicken cages is too hot
  3. The density of raising chickens is too thick or the cages are too many chickens and chickens in uneven swarms.
  4. Due to the strong light intensity
  5. Due to breeds of chickens: Breeding chickens often operate more often than broiler breeds

To overcome the above reasons, many chicken breeding experts and researchers such as Godfrey (1962), Misersky (1968), Romagosa (1968), Crozco (1969) Monne (1971) claim that the law Chicken mine cutting is most effective .

Secondly: cutting chicken beaks to save food for one unit of product by limiting the amount of spilled food and increasing the efficiency of food absorption.

According to the author Bushman (1978), he experimented and concluded with equipment and tools specialized for industrial chicken farming, for chickens without cutting, the amount of feed dropped about 2-3%. In many other test cases, the rate of spilled food is even greater.

In the experiments of our aforementioned and experimental authors (1981) (including 1248 chicken-like chickens, of which 624 miners) achieved the same results, only feed consumption was used for one application. The product taste in the cut chickens is lower than the control, the reliability is 95%.

In terms of rearing rate in mined chickens, the authors also informed that there was no difference between experimental and control groups. In the cut-off flock there is a more 'peaceful' life and a marked reduction in incidents.

For farmed roosters to breed, of course, do not carry out cutting .

How is chicken beaking done?

Age of mine cutting

Many experiments have carried out cutting chickens at all ages, but the most common conclusion is that the chickens should be cut after 12 days of age because at the old days, chickens were cut easily and stunned (Stress) and the mine was left so small that the implementation is difficult.

According to our experience, depending on the breed of chickens and the technical conditions of breeding to determine the age of mine cutting:

  1. For breeding chickens : Make a cut at 4 weeks of age, cut the mine again at 18 weeks of age and then cut it 4 to 6 months depending on the level of development of the chicken beak.
  2. For chickens raised for meat : If breeding with thousands of children, it is recommended to cut the beak at 2 weeks of age; In the case of a smaller number of farms, when there is a phenomenon of interlocking, it is necessary to intervene to 'cut the mine'.

2. The length of the mine section to cut

According to the experience and guidelines of chicken producers, the portion of the mine to be cut has a ratio of 1/3 to 1/2 of the upper part and corresponds to 1/4 and 1/3 of the lower mine section. .

Our experience is as follows:

  1. For chickens 2 to 4 weeks old, first cut 1/3 upper quarry and 1/4 lower quarry.
  2. For Lor layer breeders, at 18 weeks of age, cut half of the upper quarry and 1/3 of the lower quarry.

Cut back the chicken beak when the chicken is too long or the upper part and the lower part has an unbalanced length, it is necessary to cut and 'fix' so that it corresponds to the previous cut.

3. The most suitable environment temperature for cutting chickens is 21-27 o C

In our experience, we do not cut chickens when it is over 30 degrees Celsius because it is easy to stimulate blood flow; Do not do it when it is cold under 15 degrees Celsius because it will cause chicken pain when drinking cold water.

4. Chicken cutting technique

Cut chicken beak by machine

Machine cut chickens are usually done in breeding facilities with a large number of thousands.

This method is carried out in breeding establishments with a large number of thousands. The cutter has a blade that is heated by electricity, and has a technician who specializes in mine cutting.

Cutting mine by manual method

This method is applied in industrial chicken farming on a family scale with self-created tools and 2-person work needs. The following is the content of the method:

Chicken mine cutting tools include:

  1. One or two Thai knife knives are sized: the knife is about 3 cm wide, the thickness is about 1.5 mm, the blade sharp (sharp), the length of the blade is about 25 cm, with the handle for the handle firm and not hot when burning the blade red.
  2. A board or a board of sterile wood used as a plate. The plate is placed on a stand (either on the table, or on the seat surface) at a height appropriate for ease of operation.
  3. A charcoal stove or a wood stove is used to burn the blade.
  4. A pair of gloves for people who perform chicken cut.

The work proceeds in the following order:

  1. Burning a charcoal or wood stove to use for burning cutting blades.
  2. Put the blade in the kitchen and wait for the red blade.
  3. Put the plate to cut so that it fits with the hand of the operator.
  4. One catches chickens and fixes his legs and wings with both hands.
  5. The person performing the cut (if right-handed) uses the left hand to grasp the head of the chicken, using the thumb and the fixed index finger of the chicken, place the lower part of the beak on the plate so that the chicken mouth is close to the chicken's tongue. hurt when cutting mines.
  6. Using the right hand, grasp the knife handle and place the blade (red-heated) on the cut point in the upper part of the mine, tilting the blade at an angle of 60 degrees from the plate. Use the handle of the knife to push the blade down slowly over a period of 1-2 seconds of severed mine (mainly by the heat of the red-heated blade). Continue to cover the blade for the next few seconds on the face of the cut to create a layer of burnt horn that prevents blood from flowing out.
  7. Check mine after final cutting. If the cut is dry, not bleeding, put the chicken in the cage.

5. Take care of the frame after being cut

After the chickens are cut, the observation should be observed for a few hours, if any of the children bleed the cut, they will cut the cut with a red-hot knife.

Frequently refill the food and water into the chicken trough easily and do not hurt the cut.
