Chinese paleontologists announced the discovery of the country's largest dinosaur fossil ever in the northwestern part of Xinjiang province.

The team, led by Professor Sun Ge, deputy director of Chinese paleontological research agency, has discovered fossils of an unprecedented large dinosaur in the northwestern part of Xinjiang Province. , China.

Based on the excavated parts, the archaeological team identified the dinosaur species as a plant-eating species, living in the mid-Jurassic period, about 165 million years ago.

Professor Sun Ge said the dinosaurs were found to be about 35m long and weighed about 30 tons. This is the largest dinosaur discovered in China so far. The largest dinosaur in the Jurassic period discovered in China was less than 30 meters long.

Currently, the team is continuing to unearth the remains of fossils and hopes to reveal the entire skeleton.

'We hope the results of excavations in the future will help reveal more evidence of the cause of the death of this giant creature,' Professor Sun Ge told China Daily.

According to China Daily, the team, with the participation of archaeologists from Jilin University, Shenyang University and Xinjiang Geological Survey Institute, began excavation in October 2011. The largest dinosaur fossil detection area in China is also where Chinese and German scientists discovered the largest number of dinosaur fossils in 2008.
