China makes the world's fastest supercomputer

China began to develop a supercomputing system capable of performing over a billion billion calculations per second, 10 times faster than the fastest computer in the world today.

The new supercomputer system is being built by the Center for Parallel Computer Technology and Engineering Research (NRCPC) and is scheduled to be installed at the National Supercomputing Center in Jinan, Shandong, China, and Xinhua. yesterday reported.

At a billion billion calculations per second, this will be a supercomputer 10 times faster than the fastest computer in the world today, also produced by China.

In June, China's Sunway Taihulight computer was recognized as the world's fastest supercomputer at the 2016 International Supercomputing Conference in Germany.

According to Yang Meihong, director of the National Supercomputing Center, the project comes with many challenges and risks. " This is a test of the effectiveness of technology independently developed by China," Yang said.

China is conducting three projects to develop its own supercomputer developed by NRCPC, National Defense Technology University and Sugon Information Industry.

Supercomputers can help with many tasks such as oil exploration, high-end equipment manufacturing, medicine and graphic design. According to the International Supercomputing Conference, China owns 167 of the world's top 500 supercomputers.
