China successfully researched 'sea rice', capable of raising 80 million people

Chinese scientists have recently harvested alkaline "sea rice" cultivated in Shandong province. This is the first success in Beijing's plan to promote ambitious rice production capacity in order to feed more 80 million people.

According to RT, the new rice harvested by scientists in the Qingdao coast city was actually introduced a year ago.Sea rice is a type of rice that can grow in tidal flats or saline soil . To produce this rice variety, the researchers had to cross many different varieties of rice.

'If a natural disaster occurs, it is difficult for China to depend on imported food from abroad. The reason is that the Chinese population is large but the transportation is difficult and difficult. If Chinese people suffer hunger due to natural disasters that cause crop failure, the world will become unstable and fall into chaos, ' said Guodong Zhang, deputy director of Qingdao Sea Research and Development Center.

According to Mr. Zhang, by transforming unproductive lands into fertile land, China will be able to feed its entire population, thereby bringing about peace and stability.

'Rice and wheat are the main food of the Chinese people. Up to 60% of people depend on rice , 'Zhang said.

'With their consensus in synergies in particular and the whole society in general, more than 65,000 square kilometers of mangrove land will be transformed into rice land. This can greatly increase rice production. If we calculate 667m square of rice at least 300kg, all the saline soil will bring 30 billion kg of rice. This rice can feed the mouth of 80 million more people in China. '

According to RT, to test the cultivation of 'sea rice' , the researchers took water from the Yellow Sea, diluted it and led it into rice fields for research. According to the Director of Van Na Zhongyuan Biological Agriculture Institute, 'sea rice' is not really able to be grown in pure sea water. Currently, breeding technology and breeding of rice can only allow the cultivation of 'Sea rice' in freshwater areas with salt water.

"The salt content of seaweed is usually just over 1%," Zhongyuan said, adding that it would take years for scientists to actually produce 100% seawater-grown rice.
