Hans Sloane (1660 - 1753).

After graduating from the University of Orange-Nassau (France) majoring in medicine at the age of 25, Sloane set aside 18 months of fieldwork in Jamaica for the purpose of collecting and discovering new remedies and new plants.

And it was Sloane himself who did not expect that this journey had brought about the greatest achievement of his life

During his time in Jamaica, he observed how indigenous peoples blended pureed cocoa beans into water as a specialty drink. However, Hans could not drink a full glass of cocoa water because they were too . bitter, making him constantly nauseous.

To make this drink more pleasant, he changed a little about the recipe: using fresh cow's milk instead of plain water to mix with cocoa powder and add some sugar to the sand . The results were unexpected when the taste of this mixture was much better than Hans expected.
