Scientists at McGill University (Spain) believe that such fierce ants may resemble their ancestors living millions of years ago.

The ant warriors have a head several times larger than the body and a pair of huge teeth.

They created ants 'super soldiers' by injecting a special type of hormone into the common ant larvae.

These super soldiers may be in nature, but very rare. In deserts of the US and Mexico, their mission is to protect their communities from the invasion of other ant colonies.

The ant warriors use giant heads to block the nest and attack any ants approaching.

This discovery will help scientists learn more about species evolution.
