Detection of fossil organisms 500 million years old

With an incredible age of over 520 million years, this simple marine creature is one of the first life to exist on Earth.

During an excavation near China's Yunnan Province, scientists found an amazingly intact fossil of a marine creature over 520 million years old.

This is one of the oldest living fossils found by humans.

Fossils belong to a genus of arthropods called "fuxhianhuiid" . Its extremely simple nerve system and limbs help confirm the hypothesis of the very recent occurrence of high-level life on Earth.

It is estimated that fuxhianhuiid lived about 50 million years before the first marine creatures developed their feet to walk on land.

Fuxhianhuiid is confirmed as one of the first joints. Most likely it has evolved from worms.

"The discovery of this fossilized fossil has tremendous implications for science," said Professor Javier Ortega-Hernández of Cambridge University.

"In the past, hundreds of million-year-old fossils were found to belong to plants. This rare animal fossil will help us understand a lot more about the evolution of the sea from nature to nature."
