Detection of giant shark fossils 300 million years

The 300 million-year fossil of a giant shark shows that they are nearly as long as a bus and much larger than today's white sharks.

Discovery on Oct. 19 reported that scientists named the newly discovered fossil "super Texas shark" . The shark is 8m long, 25% larger than today's white sharks, and 3 times longer than other ancient species.

Super sharks live before dinosaurs about 230 million years ago. Their dating is important, indicating that giant sharks appear earlier than previously thought. The team presented the findings at the 75th Conference of the Vertebrate Society of Vertebrates, which took place on October 16 in Dallas, Texas.

In the era of super shark living in the Stone Age, a shallow sea called North American Inland Sea covered Texas and much of the West American region. This is also where Robert Williams, co-author of the study, unearthed the super shark fossil, including two skulls. Williams also found a large number of sharp teeth but it was unclear whether they belonged to super Texas shark or another ancient creature.

According to the researchers, the skull has many similarities to the skulls of ancient Pale shark species (542 - 251 million years ago), but completely different from the rear skull of modern sharks.
