Did you know: Pets can donate blood to each other

It is well known that blood donation is one of the most influential things we can do for others personally. But not many people will know that pets can donate blood like humans.

According to Gizmodo, a research team has shown that most owners do not know that their pets can help other animals in the same way. Veterinarians in the UK have surveyed employers who visited in 10 days. The test not only asked about the knowledge of pet blood donation but also asked if they were willing to let their pets do it. Of the 158 employers who participated in the survey, 70% said they did not know that pets could donate blood, while 75% of them did not know the pet's blood bank.

When seriously injured, cats and dogs also need emergency blood transfusions.

Just like us, when seriously injured, cats and dogs also need urgent blood transfusions. But at the moment there are very few facilities for pet donated blood needs. In the United States, for example, there are very few federal regulations in this area, so each state has its own rules for donating pet blood. California mostly allows donated dog blood from dog companies and establishments, most of them hunting dogs because their blood is quite common. While other states allow voluntary blood donation and often take place in clinics.

Animal rights defenders (including PETA) have criticized the activity, as well as claiming evidence of abuse and poor living conditions in some dog-raising facilities. They also said that pet blood bank is an inhumane.

Meanwhile, the reverse supporters and owners of blood storage companies have dismissed allegations of abuse and claimed that dogs that were rescued or retired from the dog racing industry were only kept for up to 18 months. before finding a new owner to adopt. But even if these facilities are full of humanity and accountability, that is not enough because veterinarians in the United States must constantly face a shortage of pet blood.

Of course, pets will not "agree" to donate blood if they understand what is happening. And some pet species, such as small special species, will become tense when they see a veterinarian and cannot donate blood, like cats.

And when giving cats and dogs to donate blood, the owner will receive service benefits such as free blood tests or ticks. Obviously, more regulations on pet blood donation are needed . Typically in California, a law has been proposed to extend blood donation and is awaiting state Senate approval. But if people still don't know about this incident, the blood shortage may still continue. The study, though small, has shown that nearly 90% of pet owners are willing to donate their pet blood if that is necessary.
