Discovered 2,000 year old grave in Hoi An

An ancient tomb over 2000 years old was discovered by a villager while hoeing vegetable land in his garden.

On the morning of April 9, Hoi An Cultural Heritage Management Center said that the ancient tomb was discovered in the garden of Mr. Phan Vinh at Bau Dung block, Thanh Ha ward, Hoi An city, Quang Nam province. identify the tomb of Chum dating back over 2000 years old.

While hoeing vegetables in the garden, Mr. Vinh discovered a jar buried deep underground. Realizing that this is an ancient grave, it reported to the authorities and the Hoi An Cultural Heritage Management Center for inspection.

Immediately, experts and Center staff came to the scene and organized excavations.

Through the excavation of the ancient burial site, the conservation experts at the Center have initially identified 4 cylindrical jars in a depth of 40cm.

Through artifacts at the scene, as well as historical documents after searching, initially Hoi An authorities determined this is the grave site of Chum, belonging to Sa Huynh culture, dating from the second century before Cong Originally until the second century AD around 2,000 years ago.

At the tombs of the Jars, some common artifacts similar to those used to be excavated in the remains of Hau Xa I and Hau Xa II in Hoi An and Quang Nam regions were discovered.

At present, the Hoi An Cultural Heritage Management Center is continuing to search and collect artifacts of Sa Huynh culture in the area for preservation and research.
