Discovered dinosaurs never known in Argentina

Fossils of new dinosaurs surprise the scientific community when found in a land formerly deserted.

Houses from the National University of La Matanza, Argentina yesterday announced the fossil discovery of lizard-foot dinosaurs that lived 110 million years ago in the center of the country. Neuquén, where fossils were found to be a big surprise to the scientific community because the area used to be an arid desert at that time, AFP reported.

Jose Luis Carballido from the Egidio Feruglio museum, a member of the research team, said most parts of the skull, such as the jaw, nose, teeth and bones, help determine whether the eye socket is kept intact. Besides, important parts such as the neck, back and tail bones are also found. As a result, the team can create nearly complete restoration images.

Fossil analyzes show that this is an unprecedented lizard foot dinosaur, named Lavocatisaurus agrioensis. They are herbivores, have large bodies, small heads and move with 4 limbs. The finding is evidence that herbivorous dinosaurs can adapt in arid environments with little food and water.
