Pristimantis mutabilis - Frogs have the ability to transform

Scientists have recently published their discovery of a frog in Ecuador that has the ability to cleverly transform its skin structure from smooth skin to thorn in "wink".

This special frog was discovered when the pair of researchers Katherine and Tim Krynak explored the nature reserve in the western Andean cloud forest in Ecuador.

Initially, the two researchers thought it was a normal frog with a marbled skin of moderate size. But in the face of threat, the animal began to change its skin, from the normal skin layer to the skin with sharp spines on its back.

Researcher Katherine Krynak said: "When I discovered this particular point, my colleague and I decided to bring this frog to the lab to study. Unexpectedly, within about 3 minutes, the skin theirs have changed from smooth to thorny and quickly returned to smooth skin ".

Within about 3 minutes, Pristimantis mutabilis skin changed from smooth to thorny and quickly returned to smooth skin.

Krynak explained that the ability to transform this skin will help frogs to protect themselves and blend easily into the surrounding moss and trees. However, that defense may still be inadequate against larger predators.

Genetic and genetic analysis, biologists say, is a new species in the animal world and named Pristimantis mutabilis.

Members of the other research group, Dr. Juan Guayasamin and Dr. Carl Hutter discovered that Eleutherodactylus sobetes - a previously known species of frog also has the ability to "special smooth-skinned skin variation " but is about twice the size of Pristimantis mutabilis.

The team claims to continue to learn about Pristimantis mutabilis for more life cycle information, movement, and behavior, as well as estimating the number of species in the world. These efforts will help experts improve their knowledge and make the best conservation plan for this animal.
