"We were really surprised to find this fish. In addition, we collected specimens of two or three marine species. It could also be unknown species" - Mr. Randy Kosaki , The deputy head of the expedition said.

"This shows the fact that deep coral reefs are much less explored and there are a lot of things we don't know yet" - he said.

With special diving equipment, the expedition team studied coral at depths of more than 100m under the sea. They used 3D imaging technology to better understand the structure and complexity of coral reefs.

All specimens will be transferred to experts for further research and will eventually be kept at the Hawaiian Marine Conservation Museum.
