Don't be indifferent to climate change, it will make you lose your internet connection in the near future

Today, the internet has gradually become an important factor in human life, even, it is an essential need like food and drink.

Therefore, if you want someone to really care about, and tell them that the internet connection is in danger. Not at all fictional. This is even confirmed by the scientists themselves.

When sea level rises, coastal cities will have big problems with internet connection.

In a recent study, scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Oregon discovered that when sea levels rose thousands of kilometers of fiber optic cable, there was a risk of submergence leading to malfunction and paralysis. . And this will happen in the near future, only about 15 and not far away.

This is the only data in the US, not considering cable lines in coastal cities in other countries.

This peer review study combines data from Internet Atlas, maps of Internet cable tracking, and sea level intrusion forecast from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The results show that more than 6,400km of internet fiber optic cable in the US is likely to be exposed to seawater by 2033. The underground fiber optic cable only has limited water resistance, so it cannot be tolerated when submerged under water, especially sea water. Therefore, when sea level rises, coastal cities will be in big trouble.

Currently, according to research, the network of CenturyLink, Inteliquent and AT&T is the most vulnerable network. Meanwhile, cities with the highest risk of losing internet connection are New York, Miami and Seattle. Naturally, other coastal cities in the world also face similar risks.

As such, we have one more reason to care about environmental protection. Let's care a little bit more about minimizing the effects of climate change to ensure that our precious internet network is not interrupted in the near future.
