Due to the Apollo astronaut's fault, the Moon's temperature has increased in the past 40 years

A strange problem, in just 40 years, the temperature on the moon has reached 6 degrees Fahrenheit (3.5 degrees Celsius) has been solved - and perhaps it is the fault of Apollo astronauts.

According to Business Insider, explorers often say "Nothing but photographs, leaving nothing but footprints". But it seems that besides the Apollo astronauts leave more than that. According to recent studies, the footprints inadvertently cause unintended consequences for the Moon's surface when astronauts land on it nearly 50 years ago.

The new temperature data discovered from the Moon in the 1970s, published in the Journal of Geophysical Research in April, showed that astronauts unknowingly made the Moon's temperature rise. up to 6 degrees F (~ 3.5 degrees C), by walking around and exerting force on the Moon's surface.

Data from the "Heat Experiment" were installed on the moon in 1971 and 1972 during the missions of Apollo 15 and 17. For these experiments, the astronauts were tasked to drill two holes into the surface. The moon is at different depths, from 3.2 feet (~ 1m) to 7.5 feet (~ 2.28m). Astronauts put holes in fiberglass tubes and platinum thermometers to read temperatures at different depths below the surface of the Moon. These devices will transmit the Moon's temperature to Earth in real time.

These devices were found in 1975, the surface temperature of the Moon was warming up after 4 years when the transducers were installed. Researchers have hypothesized that it is because astronauts traveling on the Moon can spur the moon's temperature to spike, but that's just a hypothesis. There are other explanations such as fluctuations in the lunar orbit, the radiation from the Earth, or the excess heat from the sheaths of the heat probes.

However, scientists have recently reviewed 440 tapes of the Moon's temperature data since the spring of 1975. And along with other temperature studies and records, scientists are confident for that the hotter moon's surface temperature is actually the astronauts' fault.

So how can astronauts warm up?

The new records show that the surface temperature of the Moon in the study area has increased from 3 to 6 degrees Fahrenheit (equivalent to 1.6 to 3.5 degrees Celsius). The probes noted an increase in the temperature of the surface above the core temperature. That shows that warming must come from something on the surface of the Moon, rather than some natural phenomenon.

Research shows that the act of driving and walking on the Moon by astronauts has stirred the so- called regolith . When the dust is released, has absorbed more light, the exposure of this dust can cause the surface of the Moon to heat up.

"During the installation of the tools, you can really disrupt the surface thermal environment of where you want to perform some measurements," study author and geophysicist Seiichi Nagihara, a scientist. studied at Texas Tech University, told the American Geophysical Union blog GeoSpace.

Scientists are still not 100% sure to explain this, because some old data tapes have been damaged over time. But if it was just for a few steps on the Moon that caused a series of climate change, it was one of the new problems to review future Moon or Mars exploration activities of human.

"That kind of consideration will definitely put the design of the next probe device , " Nagihara said.
