Egypt opens two ancient pyramids, revealing many mysteries

The Egyptian government on July 13 opened the two ancient pyramids in southern Cairo, announcing the discovery of many of the mausoleums with well-preserved mummies.

According to AFP, Minister of Antiquities Khaled al-Anani told reporters that the Bent pyramid of King Sneferu, the first pharaoh of the ancient Egyptian dynasty, and another nearby pyramid would be opened. Door back to the public for the first time since 1965.

Al-Anani also said a group of archaeologists discovered unopened coffins and a wall dating from the Middle Kingdom period 4,000 years ago.

They were discovered during excavation at the Dahshur royal cemetery on the west bank of the Nile, which has the oldest Egyptian pyramids.

"Some stone quarries, earthenware and wood have been found, and these have mummies in good condition , " Al-Anani said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the ancient wall is 60 meters long and is located south of the pyramid of King Amenemhat II and pharaoh of the 12th dynasty.

The findings also include masks to perform funerals, as well as tools from the Late Epoch - the 300-year period until Alexander the Great conquered Egypt in 332 BC - used used to cut stones, according to the Egyptian Antiquities Ministry.

In recent years, Egypt is trying to promote excavation and discovery projects across the country to revive the tourism industry, which was heavily affected after the 2011 uprising in the Arab Spring movement, causing the government of President Hosni Mubarak to be overthrown.
