Fansipan 'Indochinese Roof' has increased ... 4 meters

This is the measurement result given by the Department of Surveying, Mapping and Geographic Information of Vietnam at the meeting to report the data processing results and determine the height of Fansipan peak, held in Hanoi on June 26 .

This height is 4 meters higher than the result still used officially on many documents from the past 110 years, 3,143 meters, measured by the French in 1909.

Director of the Department of Geodesy, Map and Geographic Information of Vietnam Phan Duc Hieu said: For the first time, Vietnamese people by the most accurate, modern and reliable means and methods of measuring the height themselves of Fansipan peak since the French altitude measurement in 1909. Fansipan peak altitude measurement was carried out by the Department using GNSS measurement technology combined with altitude data from a number of satellite positioning stations national and hydrological measurement technology. It can be said that these are the most modern and reliable methods and technologies that our country can implement to measure Fansipan peak in the present time.

Mr. Tran Doan Manh, Director of the Center for Surveying and Surveying Data and Maps, under the Department of Surveying, Mapping and Geographical Information of Vietnam (the unit directly implementing the measurement of Fansipan peak) affirmed : Results of data processing to determine the position of landmark position and the highest peak position on Fansipan peak with GNSS measurement solution combined with local geoid model is strict and accurate. The result of the national height value determined at the highest position on Fansipan peak is 3,147.3 meters. The Center requests the Council to appraise through Fansipan peak height values in the national height system h = 3,147.3 m, coordinates in the National coordinate system is N = 22 degrees 18 minutes 14 seconds, 9; E = 103 degrees 46 minutes 24 seconds, 1 to serve the announcement of Fansipan peak height.

Fansipan is the highest mountain located in the center of Hoang Lien Son range, in Sa Pa town, Lao Cai province. Located in the northwest of Vietnam, Sa Pa town is 1,600 meters above sea level, 33 km from Lao Cai city. In addition to the main road from Lao Cai city, to Sa Pa, there is another traffic route, National Highway 4D connecting from Binh Lu commune, Tam Duong, Lai Chau.
