Farmer invention pesticide

The machine, manufactured by Mr. Pham Van Hat (Hai Duong), has a length of 20 m, wheels can move on muddy and subsidence fields, and has been exported to Australia and Thailand.

After finishing grade 7, at the age of 46, Mr. Hat (Kim Doi hamlet, Ngoc Ky commune, Tu Ky, Hai Duong) owns up to 40 types of machines specializing in agriculture and pesticide sprayers.

The machine is designed with a length of 20m, including the main components such as steel frame, two large wheels, pressure controller to pump water onto the tank. Two wheels can help the machine easily move on all terrain and muddy lands. In particular, the machine is equipped with a 20m-long spraying machine and an explosive machine, so it can move like a farm, can run spraying on large sample fields.

When spraying, people only need to turn on the valve to open the spraying device, use the water-suction machine in the tank to spray the medicine. In only 10 minutes, the machine can spray a sample of the field, replacing the labor force of about 50 people. . He said that the reason for designing this machine was because of his background as a farmer, he understood the difficulties faced by farmers during the cultivation process."The machines I make come from practical needs , " he said.

Born into a farming family with limited economic conditions, Mr. Hat had to quit school and go to work in a mechanic shop in the city since grade 7 to help his parents. At the workshop, he was assigned to study the mechanism of operation and repair of explosive machines. Having little knowledge, in 2001 he returned to his hometown to open his own mechanical workshop but failed. Later, in 2007 Mr. Hat and his wife decided to rent three hectares to open a safe vegetable farm. Back then, the concept of " organic vegetables" and "safe vegetables" had not been paid much attention, so the output of products was not stable. Failure again pushed his family into debt.

Determined to find out the cause of the continuous failure, Mr. Hat borrowed VND 200 million to go to Israel to work partly to pay the debt and learn experiences about growing safe vegetables. Although many modern machines are applied here, farmers still have to do manual work in many small stages. Having knowledge of mechanics, Mr. Hat boldly proposed to the farm owner some improvements in farming techniques to reduce labor force and increase productivity. The owner agreed and after 6 months he built a fertilizer dispenser on a tree. More surprising when the machine is many other farms order."Thanks to that, I have an additional money to accumulate to repay the debt," Mr. Hat said.

He also created other products to help the farm, such as vegetable cutters and vegetable sanitizers, so Israeli owners increasingly trusted and wanted to keep him. He declined the invitation and returned to Vietnam with the desire to help his family and relatives. In 2012, he returned home and used the accumulated money to open a mechanical workshop.

In 2015, once a farmer came to his house to play, he worried about pests and diseases affecting farming productivity because there was not enough labor and time to spray pesticides in time for the crop. Earlier, Mr. Hat also heard from many farmers about the cost of hiring spraying workers due to the large area of land, with a cultivator to 60 acres. Then he came up with an idea and studied to build a pesticide sprayer.

In 2016, Mr. Hat's first spraying machine was put down to test field. However, as soon as the machine operates, the machine overturns due to unsuitable wheel structure on the terrain of low-lying fields and subsidence, the pressure is not strong enough to attract water to the tank. Persevering to improve, having experienced four generations of testing machines, at the end of 2017, the spraying machine was successfully manufactured by him, serving for spraying rice and crops. "The preeminent feature of the machine is replacing labor, reducing costs and saving time and keeping crops available for farmers," Mr. Hat said.

The price of a machine ranges from VND 60-80 million depending on the size and material of the device. After only two years of selling to the market, now the product is not only ordered by farmers in the Central and Southern provinces but also receives the attention of many countries such as Australia, Thailand and Laos. Many people also want to buy the copyright for the machine but he does not sell, because he said that if you sell the copyright to others and they raise the price, the farmer will be the first to suffer."For the purpose of serving farmers, I will try to improve and lower the cost of products, so that the products reach many consumers , " he said.

As a customer who has ordered a machine from the South, Mr. Son Vinh said that the family has nearly 60 acres of land, every time it comes to the spraying season, the cost of labor for each crop is 30-35 million VND. "Not only that, hiring sprayers is now very difficult in part because of health effects, so I want to invest in a pesticide spraying machine in the long run," said Vinh.

Currently, Mr. Hat is planning to build more machines to grow onions, remove pineapple, separate corn, serving the needs of farmers. With useful inventions, Mr. Pham Van Hat was awarded the Third-class Labor Medal in 2015; Merit of Central Farmers Association 2014; Merit of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in 2016.
