Germany is about to release a 'smart' bullet gun

Rheinmetal Waffe Munition (RWM) of Germany is preparing to launch two new 40 mm caliber individual rocket launchers.

These two guns are called Cerborus and Hydra , produced for the purpose of replacing the 40mm HK-69 low- speed grenade launcher that has been used in the German army since the 1960s.

According to RWM, the new generation grenade launcher will use an average speed grenade bullet, which has a speed of 110m / s instead of a low-speed grenade bullet used in the HK-69 with only 75m speed. / second.

Although this type of ammunition will cause a bigger explosion, it has a greater effective range than the old one (700m versus 300m); The bullet is more stretched, the time of the bullets flying to the target is shorter and the probability of hitting the target is also larger.

Instead of improving from the low-speed bullet, this medium-speed 40 x 46mm bullet actually improved from the high-speed 40 x 53mm grenade launcher of Heckler-Koch's HK-GMG automatic grenade launcher .

RWM confirmed that the new bullet-type Velan HEDP (High-explosive dual-purpose) was capable of penetrating armor 20% higher, the density of splinters was denser than the 40mm grenade bullets of the US like the M430 or Nammo Mk 314. / 315 . The radius of damage of Velan bullets is also quite impressive when reaching 10m (compared to 5m of M430).

Velan bullets are produced with two main types including conventional explosive shells and airburst (Airburst) . Airburst bullets are equipped with an infrared signal receiver at the end of the warhead, capable of receiving detonation signals emitted from an infrared transmitter mounted on a gun.

Currently, Cerborus version is nearly complete. This is a one-shot grenade launcher version (similar to the famous US M79 rocket launcher), loaded from the tail of the gun barrel (by bending the barrel downwards) and has an effective range of up to 700m .

In addition, the company also confirmed that there will be a version of Cerberus mounted under the assault rifle barrel to replace the similar grenade launcher being used in the German army, the AG-36.

The 350mm long gun, weighing 2.2kg and equipped with Picatinny grooves, allows mounting various accessories according to NATO standards. In addition, the gun's advanced shock absorber system allows the jerky force to be fired when shooting the average ammunition down from 25 kN to only 5 kN.

Hydra version of the semi-automatic grenade launcher is also in the production phase of the prototype. The gun uses a mechanism of bullets using the force of the barrel to allow a shot to be fired automatically or shot by a series of 3 bullets at a time.
