How does Mars smell?

The Mars explorer robots have sent back to Earth information about the atmosphere of this planet. It is filled with sulfur, acid, magnesium, iron and chlorine compounds. All are projected under intense sunlight and wrapped in a CO2-rich atmosphere. But what kind of complex reactions will this strange mixture create and smell like?

Mars has a sweet smell like pollen mixed with the pungent smell of sulfur

Scientists are now trying to remix these factors to answer this seemingly difficult question. By reproducing according to the parameters that Mars sent, you will be able to smell the Martian smell right on Earth. This technology is similar to that applied in the perfume industry.

This method will gather the collected molecules. Then this compound sample will be put into the laboratory and continue to be analyzed by spectroscopy. The results will help us synthesize to create scents that mimic the smell of the input molecules.

Future space missions will bring specialized technology devices to help read the spectrum of the Martian atmosphere. Then these devices will transmit the collected information back to the earth and the leading experts in the perfume industry will take care of the rest.

Experts suspect that Mars will smell a bit harsh.

"The fragrance companies are extremely interested in this idea. They predict that the scent of Mars will become a leading trend of discerning people. It will make you feel like living in the future, the era of exploring space and settling down on other planets, " said Anna Morris, a NASA spokesman.

Experts suspect that Mars will smell a bit harsh . This smell will be similar to the smell of sweet pollen mixed with sulfur. Residents living on the red planet 30 to 40 years later will have to learn how to get used to and live with this weird smell.

This is not the first time that humans have tried to decipher the scent of the Earth

According to information in 2006 on the website of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), astronauts observed that the dust on the Moon had a lot of sticky materials with a very complex composition, moreover smelling quite strange.

Every Apollo astronaut ever smelled this smell and when walking on the Moon they brought the Moon dust. It is a slightly sticky substance , which can cling to shoes, gloves and other contact surfaces. Whenever returning to the ship's cabin, no matter how the astronauts tried to brush it out, their clothes would still be attached to this dust. As long as the astronauts remove their hats and gloves, they can immediately smell the "Moon" smell which makes them confused.

"Apollo 17" astronaut Jean Cernan commented on the moon dust "It gives off the smell of explosive smoke!". And "Apollo 16" astronaut Charlie said: "For me, the moon dust smells and tastes like gunpowder. Its smell is like someone has just fired a cacbin gun here."

But when they returned to Earth, the moon dust no longer saved a bit of scent. In the laboratory of Moon specimens at Johnson Space Center of the US Federal Aviation Administration, there are hundreds of kilograms of Moon dust. But scientists said that when they came here, the dust no longer smelled like that.

For years, scientists have yet to find a solution to the problem of the moon dust.
