How to observe the largest meteor shower of the year in Vietnam

Viewers who do not need any astronomical device can still see the largest meteor of the five Geminids with 120 tracks an hour at their peak.

The ideal time to observe Geminids is when this meteor shower peaks on the night of December 13 and dawn . But this day coincides with the full moon, which is detrimental to tracking because the Moon's light will cause glare and obscure a large number of supernovae. However, astronomers believe that viewers should not ignore this remarkable astronomical phenomenon, because Geminids are always a big meteor shower with an average of 120 tracks per hour.

The peak of the meteor shower in 2017 takes place around 1:00 am on December 14 morning in Vietnam time and lasts for about 1 hour.

When admiring, viewers do not need to use any supporting optical device, or binoculars or telescopes, just by the naked eye.

Viewers also need to pay attention to the weather like it is not rain or cloudless. If possible, arrange a trip to the suburbs, away from the city center, where no street lights or lights are available.

Before observing, viewers need to avoid looking at bright objects, keeping their eyes in the dark for about 20 minutes, minimizing exposure to artificial light.
