Koreans have a legend to explain this phenomenon: The village of Jindo is attacked by the tiger and the villagers have to flee to Modo Island to hide. They all left, except for an old lady. In desperation, she prayed with her hands, God heard the prayer and divided the sea, creating a path connecting the two islands to help her escape the beast.
