Lens turns 'cricket' into a microscope

A young American inventor designed a simple but groundbreaking camera lens that could be inserted into a camera and magnified the object at the microscope level.

The 6mm Microphone Lens offers a range of 15x to 60x magnification, which is far too high for the high-end camera category.

It is made of silicone, which is attached to the camera lens of the smartphone without the need for additional support, for only $ 15.

Microphone Lens is a research work of Thomas Larson, 22, from Seattle, while studying for a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Washington University.

Larson has set up a fundraising project on Kickstarter, and has raised more than $ 68,000 in donations before the campaign ended Sept. 10.

The Kickstarter project is devoted to the 15x version, but Larson continues to work on making higher magnification versions, and the farthest goal is a 150x lens.
