NASA organized a design competition on Mars

The US Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) organized a contest to look for the most suitable astronaut housing model in deep space exploration programs, with a total prize value of more than two million dollars.

Design competition on Mars

NASA wants participants like designers, architects, engineers or technology lovers not only to build 3D printed and quickly reproduced housing models , but also to ensure that materials The application is reusable and suitable for the Mars environment.

The competition was kicked off on May 16, with a total prize value of $ 2.25 million and lasting three phases. The registration stage requires the contestant to come up with an idea of a housing model designed with 3D printing technology. 30 selected people will participate in two challenges. In the first round, candidates are required to develop the manufacturing technologies necessary to produce structural components, or combine recycled materials and materials available on Mars, or choose one of the two. . The second round raises the challenge of building the full version housing model , using previously selected materials.

According to the IB Times, contestants can learn NASA documents about environmental factors and living conditions to survive on another planet, such as information about food, personal belongings, tools, software, costumes.

NASA uses 3D printing technology in the hope of promoting the production of small-weight space devices. In November 2015, the agency installed the first 3D printer on the International Space Station (ISS).
