NASA's astronaut space flight 196

The 2nd space walk in 2017 takes place on January 13, 2017. This is part of the International Space Station's (ISS) energy system upgrade plan.

The main mission of astronauts Shane Kimbrough and Thomas Pesquet of the European Space Agency during this walk is to install a new lithium-ion battery , replacing the previous nickel-hydrogen battery and securing inter-contact. Precise linkage with the data link cable set outside of the International Space Station 1A Station. The same work was done on January 6, 2017 Kimbrough and Peggy Whitson at 3A station.

To get ready for these upgrades, 6 lithium-ion batteries and 6 standard head mounts were transferred to the operating station last December. It is known that ISS has all 8 main power stations, each of which consists of 3 battery packs with each set containing 2 pairs of nickel-hydrogen batteries. And each of these batteries will be removed by a lithium battery and a standard head mount.

According to Tweet by engineer and crew - Doug Wheelock, weather conditions outside ISS are extremely harsh. Specifically, he said the updated temperature on the second departure trip is about 135 degrees Celsius for the day and -135 degrees Celsius at night. Therefore, the movement must be carried out with the most stringent protection standards.

Of course, there are still many energy channels that have not yet been put into new batteries, so the ISS energy system upgrade plan will last for several years. Shipments are also expected to be rushed and expected to move next year.

These extracurricular trips have been carried out regularly since 1988 and have so far made a total of 196 trips so far. However, the frequency of implementation is not fixed, changing with each year condition: as 2007 conducted 20 walks but last year, this number only stopped at 3 walks.
