Next month, a meteorite approached the earth

The meteorite is about the size of a football field flying quite close to Earth, and will approach the closest distance to our planet in the middle of next month.

Meteorite 2012 DA14 is about 40m wide, weighing 130,000 tons, flying at 6.3km / sec, and will be only 27,000km from Earth on February 15th. If it collided with the Earth, it would cause a massive explosion equivalent to 2,500 million tons, equivalent to the explosion of Tungunska in Siberia in 1908.

However, scientists predicting 2012 meteorite DA14 will not collide with the earth this year, and probably never. However, this meteorite will help astronomers to study more closely, and help ordinary people have the opportunity to see meteorites flying very close to Earth.

The path of meteorite 2012 DA14 will cut the Earth's synchronous orbit on February 15

2012 DA14 was discovered on February 22, 2012 by LaSagra observatory located on the Andalusia Mountains in southern Spain.

On February 15, this meteorite will pass through the Earth very quickly, in the direction from southwest to northeast, can be observed in the night sky in most of Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. From these areas, meteorites will appear brightest, so the eye-eyed people can observe without the help of equipment.
