According to pharmacist Le Kim Phung, a former lecturer at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, misconceptions about diabetes like not eating sugar or sweet foods for example, confectionery, fruit, are wrong. There are almost no foods that patients cannot eat and no foods are perfectly good.

"Not only Mr. Thien, but many people with diabetes hear it orally and eat this, drinking that will reduce blood sugar. So, many people for a long time only use one kind of food" , Ms. Phung said.

People with diabetes should break down daily meals, choose foods with low blood sugar index but still balance the sugar powder food groups, protein supply groups, provide fat, trace minerals.

The average total energy for people with diabetes is 1,500 kcal per day and should be divided into 600 kcal in the morning, 500 kcal for the afternoon and 400 kcal in the afternoon.Patients should eat vegetables, soup before eating rice and other food. At the side meals, should choose ready-to-eat foods using isomalt sugar - a functional sugar of natural origin, low energy.

Pharmacist Phung advised people with diabetes to use watercress, peas, onions, bitter melon, sweet potatoes, garlic, pineapple, and cinnamon. These are foods that work to prevent diabetes and help patients have more choices on the menu. However, when using, should pay attention to how to process, dosage accordingly and do not forget to take the medication as directed by the doctor.
