Planning of energy system of Phu Quoc district

Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee has just announced "Approval of Planning of Phu Quoc district energy system for the period of 2011-2020, towards 2030" of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

According to this energy system planning, from 2013, focusing on investment on the basis of implementing synchronous solutions to supply enough electricity for the socio-economic development of Phu Quoc island district; pulling 110kV underground cable to cross the sea to supply electricity to Phu Quoc island from the national grid; strengthen the development of power sources and grids, ensuring stable power supply and increasing quality.

In the strategy to develop energy sources for Phu Quoc, prioritize the development and application of exploitation technologies using renewable energy at different levels.

In the immediate future, the electricity source using diesel fuel is still the main source of supply for the island district until the completion of the 110kV Ha Tien - Phu Quoc underground cable route will be reduced to diesel power. Research on using thermoelectricity running on coal, gas, wind power and solar power. Up to now, the 110kV underground cable route through Ha Tien - Phu Quoc sea has carried out the bidding for EPC bidding package and it is expected that this project will be completed and put into operation in 2014.

According to Electricity Construction Consultancy Joint Stock Company 3 - EVNPECC3 (Electricity of Vietnam Group - EVN), at present, Phu Quoc Power Plant has 3 power generation clusters, with a total installed capacity of 21,285kW, available capacity 16,600kW.

In order to focus investment resources, from now to 2015, EVN selects a low-cost option to design the energy system planning for Phu Quoc; from 2015 to 2020, it will choose the basic plan to design the power and transmission transmission and distribution works of the island district; from 2021-2030 will choose a high load option.

EVNPECC3 forecasts the average commercial electricity consumption demand on Phu Quoc island (high plan) from now to 2015 is 1,386kWh / person / year (the national average is 1,196kWh / person / year); by 2020 is 2,614kWh / person / year (the whole country is 1,897kWh / person / year) and by 2020 there will be over 4,200kWh / person / year.
