Process of embalming Buddha's body living in China

Before his death, the monk in Fujian province had a non-biodegradable body considered to be a Chinese living Buddha eating only tofu with porridge, drinking very little water.

According to Venerable Chan Vu, the head of Pho Chieu pagoda, Hoa Thuong Thuong Phuc Hau was born in 1919 in Thanh Duong town, Pho Giang city (today Quanzhou). At the age of 13, he took refuge in the Buddha's door and practiced at Sung Phuc temple in Quanzhou.

Usually he speaks very little, is dedicated to spiritual practice, rarely comes into contact with the outside world. He is a gentle person, respected by many juniors. 10 years before his death, he was looked after by his sister, Xiang Yu, according to Sina.

Tuong Ngoc Phuong said that her teacher had a simple life, for several decades, only a piece of tofu with pumpkin porridge was eaten every day. Clothes only wear a few sets of clothes, something that can be done by hand. More than a month before he passed away, he only ate half a bowl of porridge each day, drinking less than half a tablespoon of water.

He passed away in the sixth lunar month of 2012, enjoying the life of 94 years old. The monk's body was placed at Sung Phuc pagoda for 5 days, then transferred to Pho Chieu Pagoda. Because he was a senior monk, Pho Chieu Pagoda decided to " worship ang" for him and invited expert Chu Quoc Sinh to perform.

"Venerable Phuc Hau, more than three years ago, started to sit in ang, close ang, to this day the opening ceremony of the ang, all are perfect," said Chu, who successfully preserved many mummified Buddhas, said.

"First sprinkle a layer of lime powder on the bottom of the ang, add a layer of charcoal, then place the dharma body (the body of the monk) in the lotus posture inwards, then insert charcoal and sandalwood. . in, finally closed the ang cap again, over the last three and a half years opened ".

Ang contained the monk's body placed in a room to worship the road in Pho Chieu pagoda, and closed it to ensure the moist air did not get inside.

According to Chu Quoc Sinh, the experience given to the body of the embalmed body has decayed depending on whether the person is thin or fat and the time of death. Normally, compared to the stout bodily monk losing in the hot weather, the thin monks who died in the winter had a higher rate of non-biodegradable bodies.

Chan Vu said, they invited experts to help treat the body of Venerable Phuc Hau.

On the morning of January 10, Pho Chieu Pagoda, Tu Mao Mountain, Tuyen Chau City, Phuc Kien Province held an open ceremony for the embalming of the old monk Phuc Hau. Everyone was happy and surprised to see the mummy after three years still not decomposing, the beard remained intact. He is considered "Buddha's humiliation" (Buddha lived).

"To become Buddha's body humiliation, 100% all thanks to spiritual practice, the technique of preserving our bodies only accounts for very little," Chu Quoc Sinh said. The next thing to do is to cast gold on the monk's body, sweep the gold paint for about a month. Once completed, the living Buddha statue will in turn be taken to the temple at Sung Phuc Pagoda and Pho Chieu Pagoda.
