Magnolia magnolia grandis has aroma currently classified as 'extremely dangerous (CR)' in the Red Book of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. In the world there are less than 50 Magnolia trees Magnolia grandis, with a small population found in limestone mountains in Yunnan province, China and in Son La, Vietnam.

In addition, a new population of rare Vietnamese yellow cypress trees Xanthocyparis vietnamensis was also discovered during the survey. This species was recognized by the scientific community as a new species in 1999.

According to FFI, the discovery of the new plant populations mentioned above opens up hope for scientists to coordinate local communities to plan conservation and collect seeds to propagate them in the future.
