Our bodies have about 60-80% water. We need water for many different purposes such as digestion and excretion. Water is also the main component of blood.

However, every day we lose about 2-3 liters of water through sweat, urine, breathing. Therefore, if we don't drink enough water to compensate, we will be dehydrated.

When dehydrated, our brain will have to work harder than usual. It informs the kidneys to keep the water, thus creating a thicker urine. It also reduces the production of saliva, causing dry mouth. Dehydration also causes brain tissue to shrink, causing us headaches and nausea.

Body energy also decreases and the skin becomes dry due to lack of water. More seriously, prolonged dehydration can lead to even more fatal health problems.
