Recycling cigarette remnants

The remnant of a cigarette is something both dirty and difficult to decompose at the filter head and very toxic to aquatic organisms. Therefore, the Vancouver and TerraCycle city governments in Canada are offering a program to collect tobacco samples for recycling.

The program is named CWB (short for tobacco residue collection and treatment). There will be 110 cigarette crates next to trash cans in downtown Vancouver, collecting and relocating.

The cellulose in the filter of cigarettes will be chemically treated and put into industrial production into pallets for shipping. The rest will also be made into blends for other materials.

Another randomized study, conducted at Xi'an Jiaotong University in China, shows that discarded cigarette pieces can be mixed as a component of stainless steel.

According to Gizmag news agency, CWB is part of the action plan to 2020 so that Canadian cities become green and clean, in which Vancouver ranks first. This plan also has many interesting goals such as sharing cars, using pavement recycled plastic.
