Russia will build its own space station in 2023

Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday said the country plans to build its own space station in orbit in 2023.

Russia intends to build its own space station

"By 2023, we have a plan to build Russia's own space station in orbit. This is a far cry from the future, but it is also necessary for us to look from the national economic perspective " , AFP quoted Putin as saying in the annual dialogue yesterday.

The head of the Kremlin also said Russia needs a separate space station to observe the territory from space . " We use the International Space Station (ISS) for scientific and economic activities, but from ISS, the Russian territory is only seen about 5%. From our own station, we will see all of Russia. " Mr. Putin said.

Earlier this year , Russia announced its intention to deploy the space station and use the capital modules reserved for ISS. The head of space agency Roscosmos in March said Russia will join US partners in a new research project on orbit. However, the US Aeronautics Agency (NASA) did not confirm the plan and only said that they and Roscosmos discussed the possibility of future cooperation.

Russia and the United States agree to continue to operate and finance ISS at least until 2024 , but future joint projects are still open when relations between the two countries are strained because of Ukraine crisis. .

Russia is a country that plays a key role both in manpower and technology at ISS. The country's Soyuz spacecraft is currently the only vehicle to send American astronauts to the space station.
