Scientists found a new organ in the human body

A giant body, completely unknown, has been found by Swedish scientists right in the human body.

You have a giant net right under your skin, woven with thin, hair-like threads - scientists from Sweden's Karolinska Institute have just announced. It is a previously unknown organ in the human body and many animals, called "painful glial complexes" because of the pain we have.

Previously, it was believed that nerve fibers in the skin were responsible for receiving unpleasant stimuli such as stinging and other forms of pain. But the newly discovered organ, hidden under the skin, is made up of numerous Schwann cell-like glial cells (the main type of neuronal cell of the peripheral nervous system) . However, these cells are also linked to the skin thanks to the long extension of the tail, which surrounds the head of pain-sensing neurons in the skin, thus creating a tight mechanism for pain.

In a mouse experiment, when this "painful glial complex" network was blocked, their perception of pain sensations decreased markedly.

"Our research shows that sensitivity to pain not only occurs in the nerve fibers of the skin, but also in the pain-sensitive organs discovered recently," said Professor Patrik Ernfors, author. The main research, said.

According to him, this finding changes our understanding of the cellular mechanism of physical pain sensation. That may be the premise for more on-the-ground research to prevent and limit chronic pain, and abuse of countless patients worldwide. Recent research shows that more than 20% of adults in this country suffer from chronic pain, defined as pain lasting 3 months or more.
