Sharing a bowl with a person with hepatitis B has been infected?

Many people spread the hepatitis B virus when sharing bowls, shaking hands, embracing sick people . but this is a misconception.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a virus that causes hepatitis . When infected with hepatitis B virus, most patients do not have symptoms, only a few cases of acute hepatitis B such as body aches, dark urine, loss of appetite . If not followed Proper treatment and monitoring, patients infected with hepatitis B virus will turn into chronic hepatitis, which can lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer.

According to the Ministry of Health, Vietnam has about 15 million people with hepatitis B, mainly chronic hepatitis. High incidence and dangerous infectious disease, but people's awareness of this disease is still disastrous.

Professor Nguyen Van Mui, former deputy director of 103 Military Hospital, Chairman of the National Council for the development of treatment regimens for hepatitis virus applied nationwide, said the majority of people misunderstood that the hepatitis B virus has can spread when sharing bowls, face, shaking hands, embracing sick people . This causes discrimination in the community for hepatitis B patients.

"Even home visits of people infected with HBV or playing with children with this virus do not lead to infection as people often fear," said Professor Mui.

In fact, hepatitis B is completely non-communicable through normal contact but mainly through blood (blood transfusions, sharing needles), from mother to child or unprotected sex . However, this route of infection is not difficult to control, there is a vaccine for hepatitis B.

According to Professor Mui, in addition to misunderstandings about hepatitis B, people still hide the disease, subjective to disease. When it comes to late-stage disease, it is more difficult and more expensive to treat it. This is also the reason why the new incidence in the country has increased, with 30,000 cases per year.

"Awareness of people about disease is a top priority for disease control. Especially when currently, screening for hepatitis B is quite easy, just a quick test can result in a person having sick or not, " said Professor Mui.

According to Mr. Mui, many people with hepatitis B have come to support herbs, but it also burdens the liver because the product contains dirty chemicals and herbs. Professor recommends, when buying herbal remedies to treat illnesses need to check carefully and buy in a safe place.

For prevention, the community should pay attention to vaccination against hepatitis B for people who are not immune to this virus. If the mother has hepatitis B, the newborn needs to be vaccinated with an antiviral serum specific in the delivery room. Persons with chronic hepatitis B who have not been prescribed treatment should be monitored every 3 to 6 months at a medical facility with liver screening and testing services. Health insurance has also paid for people with hepatitis B, so the treatment has not faced too many difficulties.
