Started construction of the world's largest floating solar power plant

According to a reporter in Tokyo, Kyocera Corporation has started construction of the world's largest floating solar power plant in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture.

In the announcement published to the press, Kyocera Corporation and Century Tokyo Leasing said that this is a joint venture project between Kyocera and Century Tokyo Leasing.

The project was started in December 2015 at Yamakura reservoir , operated by the Public Administration of Chiba Prefecture. The plant will be installed about 51,000 modules on a surface area of 180,000m 2 , with a capacity of 16,170 MWh / year, providing electricity for about 4,970 households.

As planned, this factory will be started in fiscal year 2018.

This project was introduced in October 2014 by Chiba Prefectural Public Administration, with the goal of minimizing negative impacts on the environment.

According to Kyocera's estimates, the power generation capacity of the plant is equivalent to the amount of electricity consumed by 19,000 barrels of oil and 8,170 tons of CO2 emissions.

Kyocera is one of the world's leading corporations on solar power technology. Since 2014, Kyocera has developed floating solar power plants to take advantage of Japan's abundant resources, namely the surface of reservoirs for agriculture and flood control lakes.

Yamakura reservoir project will be Kyocera's fourth solar power plant after two factories were operated in March 2015 and a factory was started in June 2015.
