Strong earthquake in Solomon Islands, New Zealand

On January 15, a magnitude 5 earthquake shook the city of Christchurch, New Zealand's South Island. Next is a series of strong aftershocks from 3-3.7 Richter.

According to a reporter in Australia, New Zealand Geological Watch said the earthquake occurred at 2:47 pm on January 15 (local time).

The earthquake center is 10km east of Christchurch and 9km deep. There is no information about casualties or major damage yet.

The city of Christchurch was devastated in a 6.3-magnitude earthquake on February 22, 2011, killing at least 180 people. Last June, there was also a battle that was as strong as 6 on the Richter scale.

Meanwhile, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said the Solomon Islands (Solomon) also suffered a 5.3-magnitude earthquake in the morning of January 15.
