Strong earthquakes in Central Asia, 14 people were killed

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred in the early morning in Central Asia, killing at least 14 people, causing panic everywhere.

The earthquake occurred at 1:35 with the epicenter at a depth of 9.2 km in the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan near the Uzbekistan border, AFP quoted the US Geological Survey (USGS). However, great damage to people belongs to neighboring Uzbekistan.

The city of Fergana in Uzbekistan, about 42 km from the epicenter, was rocked by the earthquake. About 200,000 people in this city have a terrifying experience that most of them have never experienced.

"The earthquake left some old buildings at Fergana destroyed ", Uzbekistan's Emergency Situation Ministry announced. " According to initial information, at least 13 people were killed as a result of seismic collapses. About 86 people received on-site medical care, and another 35 were taken to hospitals."

The people of Fergana did not panic at nearly a day after the earthquake."The people were afraid and poured into the streets. The earthquake only lasted a few seconds but it was enough to cause my ceiling to crack and paint on the wall still falling down until now," Abdullah, a resident of Fergana to speak.

Sukhrob, another resident, shared that even though the tremors had ended, the people in the city were still afraid and did not dare return home.

The capital of Tashkent in Central Asia, about 235 km away from where the earthquake occurred, still felt a shock of up to 5 Richter scale. President Islam Karimov of the country ordered all measures to overcome the disaster's consequences.

Meanwhile, residents in the city of Osh in neighboring Kyrgyzstan say the seismic triggers the turmoil here. Bishkek of Kyrgyzstan is about 300 km away from Osh also feels very shaken.

"We were awakened by a noise and strong vibrations for about 40 seconds. The house started to shake," said Albek Seitov, a citizen of Osh city. " It's like a nightmare. My neighbors and I run to the street. All are frightened and panicked. " Seitov added that he had not seen any houses destroyed but the people were still in the streets because afraid to go home.

A special working team of the Kyrgyz government was dispatched to the area affected by the earthquake in the morning but did not confirm which death, in addition to physical damage, some buildings were damaged. " The houses are not significantly damaged after the earthquake, " Aslanbek Osomov, an official with the Ministry of Emergency Situation, said.

In addition to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan's Khujand city also recorded a magnitude of 6 on the Richter scale. A man died after falling from the second floor trying to escape by the window when the earthquake struck.
