Sun damage ability

A new, impressive picture of the face of a truck driver provides vivid evidence of the extent to which the Sun can damage us.

The photo, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, shows what dermatologists call skin degeneration due to sun damage - a common manifestation of aging. A special point about the photo is that the destruction only attacks one side of the main character - a retired truck driver.

'Much of his life, he works as a truck driver. We believe that one-sided sun exposure is the cause of this injury, ' said dermatologist Jennifer Gordon of Northwestern University on the Live science page.

According to Gordon, ultraviolet A (UVA) rays from the Sun can be easily penetrated through window glass and even thin clothes. They will then cause deep damage to the skin, affecting linked cells such as collagen and elastin. That is when you suffer from the effects of aging: wrinkles, acne, melasma, . on the skin.

The patient in the photo went to Mrs. Gordon and her colleagues after being tired of being asked what happened to one of his faces. Until now, this man did not have any symptoms of skin cancer even though he still needs to be monitored carefully in the future.

Gordon said the best way to prevent skin cancer as well as premature aging is to use sunscreen. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends that people use sunscreens with an SPF of at least 30 and have broad-area protection against both ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) - raw main cause of sunburn.

Even on a murky day, up to 80% of the ultraviolet rays from the Sun can penetrate clouds. Therefore, the American Academy of Dermatology also recommends that people apply sunscreen on all open skin every day, even in winter.

'The biggest thing I learned after all this is that we are never safe in the sun,' concluded Gordon.
