With nearly 25,000 trees covering the outside, La Tour des Cedres is like a tall vertical forest.

Switzerland built a tower covered with trees in the heart of the city

According to Gizmag, Italian company Stefano Boeri is chosen to design "vertical forests" for the city of Lausanne, Switzerland. The tower will cover trees and integrate sustainable technologies like solar cells and rainwater systems.

Named La Tour des Cedres or cedar tree tower , the vertical forest is 117m high with over 3,000m 2 of land planted with trees. This will be the home of 100 cedar trees, 6,000 shrubs and 18,000 other plant species.

In addition to the huge number of green trees, this multi-purpose project includes 36 floors of high-end apartments, offices and 5,000m2 for shopping centers. The highest floor is dedicated to opening a panoramic restaurant. Exterior works are made up of many concrete tree plots with protruding beams. These cells are directly attached to the concrete frame of the tower.

La Tour des Cedres will equip solar panels, underground heat pumps and rainwater systems, helping to lower the level of dependence on transmission power while operating the building. As expected, La Tour des Cedres will be constructed in 2017.
