Thailand launches ... durian into the universe

A Thai space research agency has just released a picture of a package containing durian packages ready to leave Earth in July 2018.

According to scientists from the Space, Geographic and Information Technology Development Agency (GISTDA - Thailand), this package is in the project of producing food for space travel in the future.

Many previous studies show that with different conditions than the earth, some organisms may generate complex changes, including humans. So, to put something in the universe as food, one must make sure that they are not altered in a harmful way.

This durian tour is only 5 minutes long. Durian is cut out, put the bags into plastic bags.

It will accompany some other Thai products but has not been published in detail. The package was launched by an American missile in July.

After the trip, durian and the things that go with it will be analyzed in detail by the scientists, find out what changes it has when going through space travel, and what changes there are for people to eat or not.

According to a GISTDA spokesperson, durian was chosen because the Thai people considered it as king of fruits. If durian returns safely from the journey, scientists will continue to launch bales carrying mangoes, Thai sticky rice and other national specialties.

This is not the first time specialties have the opportunity to travel astronautically for scientific purposes. In 2008, a Korean astronaut was introduced into the universe with a box of kimchi, a traditional dish of the country.
