Local authorities were confused when the 100m-long giant plastic pipe was discovered in Te Waewae bay. The strange object image shared on Southland's Facebook Environment page requires the identification of its origin and its owner, News.com.au reported on December 18.

"Ian Coard, the deputy manager of the harbor came to the place to find the object for closer inspection. The strange object is very long, black, made of plastic, with metal hooks protruding at each end and quite heavy , " Environment Southland said.

Some people commented that the object resembled a sealed polyethylene pipe section with a chain hook to pull at each end. Many others claim that it is similar to items used in fish farms to fish out of cages.

This is the second object to run aground on the coast of New Zealand in recent times. Last week, an oyster- like object called "Muriwai monster" appeared at the beach near Auckland, causing many locals to be confused.
