The 110-year-old giant lobster escaped a short life on the table

An elderly lobster weighing nearly 7kg almost became a dish in a restaurant in Florida, USA without the timely intervention of the animal rescue organization.

UPI reported on July 27 that Joe Melluso at Florida's Tin Fish restaurant planned to cook giant lobster but eventually decided to release the animal after John Merritt, founder of the rescue of wild animals. iRescue Wildlife, appeared.

Amir Rossi was the one who contacted John Merritt to rescue the lobster after seeing a share on Facebook about it."Within 1.5 hours, we were determined to do this," Rossi said.

According to Melluso, he was skeptical when the seafood supplier informed about a 7kg lobster with an estimated life of 105 - 110 years old.

"You can pull up hundreds of thousands of pounds of lobster but never have such a big lobster," Melluso said.

Merritt collected funds from Florida merchants to transfer lobsters from the restaurant to Maine State Aquarium, where it will live on as Larry.

Melluso's group carefully prepared Larry before the journey. They put the animal in a cool box with styrofoam insulation, wrapped in a damp cloth and spread the ice packs. As soon as Larry arrived in Maine, the aquarium manager would decide to drop it naturally or take it to the showroom with another 7kg lobster.
