The 600-year-old sword of a knight died in the swamp

The almost intact sword in Poland is more likely to be a knight falling into a drowned swamp.

The researchers found a 600-year-old sword with a blade still intact, lacking only the hilt cover, in the swamp near the small town of Hrubieszów in southeastern Poland, bordering Ukraine and International Business Times on June 19 reported.

According to experts, this sword is more likely to be owned by an ill-fated knight who died in a swamp."The area where the sword is found is a peat swamp ," said Bartłomiej Bartecki, director of the Museum Fr. Stanisław Staszic in Hrubieszów, said. "It is very likely that the unlucky knight was dragged down the swamp."

According to Bartecki, the 1.2m long sword, weighing about 1.5kg has a good balance and is very suitable for fighting. The initial markings still remain on the sword. The swastika on the hilt was thought to be the manufacturer's sign, hidden beneath the wood, the bones or antlers used as padding for the knight to hold the sword tightly.

Conservation experts will analyze the sword more thoroughly to find more unobserved traces in Warsaw before returning to Stanisław Staszic Museum."The test method will also help identify the owner of the sword. We are sure there are many symbols engraved on the blade near the hilt, which are often made by the producers for knights alone. This can help us. find out the origin of the weapon, " Bartecki said.

Archaeologists are planning to explore and excavate the area in the near future in search of the knight's armor and other weapons.
