This is the first beach in Fukushima opened since the earthquake - the tsunami caused a nuclear disaster in March 2011.

Nakoso Beach, located about 65km south of a troubled nuclear plant, is now considered the first safe beach in the area of last year's nuclear incident, which has opened its doors to visitors.

Iwaki city officials said the radiation levels in Nakoso in the country are less than 1 becquerel per liter and that radiation in the air is not harmful to health.

Local women came to the beach as tour guides to introduce the sea festival with swimming activities. The dancers and beach volleyball players were also present to attend the ceremony.
